Rivers DPO arrested for allegedly aiding escape of ritual killer

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a Divisional Police Officer for his alleged involvement in the escape of one Ifeanyi Dike, the University of Port Harcourt undergraduate who allegedly killed an eight-year-old for money ritual.

According to Punch, the DPO, who was arrested on Monday, had long telephone conversation with Johnbosco Okoroeze, a dismissed police sergeant, which indicated that there was a premeditated action by him to allow the suspected ritual killer to escape.

It was learnt that while preparations were ongoing by both the father of the deceased, Dr. Ernest Nmezuwuba, and the suspect to write their statements, several calls were received from the said DPO by Okoroeze.

A top police official in the state told the newspaper that the command has enough evidence to believe that the DPO was working hand in hand with the ex-sergeant, who has been remanded in police custody, adding that the DPO has been arrested.

He said that even the father of the girl that was killed had said that there was communication with the IPO (dismissed sergeant) handling the matter and somebody that has not been disclosed.

He said the the DPO has a lot to explain about his possible involvement in the suspect’s escape.

Ifeanyi Dike had allegedly raped, killed and removed vital organs of an eight – year- old girl, Victory Chikamso, before escaping from police custody.

The father of the victim, Nmezuwuba, was at the State Criminal Investigation Department when the suspected murderer and ritualist escaped from police custody.
